WELCOME TO
GROUND RHYTHM DANCE PROJECT
The Ground Rhythm Method
Our artistic methodology and practices render a unique approach to generating movement. The Ground Rhythm Method introduces a movement hybrid that is influenced by martial arts, urban and contemporary dance vocabulary, while highlighting the use of rhythmic variation, somatic breath techniques, partnering. improvisation, and decision-making. This universal approach to movement establishes and develops one's ability to understand, engage and connect with the art of dance.
Our Work
Quality Performances for Creative Audiences
Founded in 2016, by Artistic Director Destine Young, Ground Rhythm Dance Project produces work heavily grounded in the values & cultures of the urban dance community. As we strive to diversify the aesthetics of what modern contemporary dance is known to be, our vocabulary is not limited to the artistic values of any one style; however it largely embraces the cultural and physical aesthetics of Hip-hop Dance, Martial Arts, and other Contemporary Dance forms.
What's Cracking underground?
Ground Rhythm is currently raising money for the start of a 2-year long project called,
"The Urban Circle Project".
As apart of the overall project, We are currently in our second phase of development and preparation for a live staged production of our 2018 Dance Film, "Torque- The body survives", a series of short dances which will premiere in the Spring of 2020. Aside from Imprisonment, each of these works hints at our continued curiosity to research and examine the body in survival mode, especially among black & brown communities.
Project Description:
The basis of The Urban Circle project is to use dance as a tool for cultivating embodied research as well as a vehicle for fostering the development of self-image. We are interested in researching how black and brown communities are wired to survive and exploring how that manifests in the body in tandem with how white communities are wired to survive--as a catalyst for discovering new modes of equity and its influences towards cultural preservation in black and brown communities.
Ground Rhythm Dance Project is a fiscally sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a 501(c)(3) public charity. Contributions for the charitable purposes of Ground Rhythm Dance Project will be made payable to Fractured Atlas and are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.
